The Silent Wings Museum is a great place to visit. It just opened in October of 2002 and features the story of WWII glider pilots that were trained right here in Lubbock several years ago. Through its halls you will learn the story of what it was like to glide in behind enemy lines land your aircraft and then become one of the unit members that you just flew in. It is located on the airport grounds and is open seven days a week. Visit their web site at silentwingsmuseum.com.
Located just east of Lubbock is the Texas Air Museum in Slaton, Texas. The air museum features several aircraft representing all generations of flight. WWII to a Navy Tomcat are located right here in the Lubbock area. The museum is staffed by several volunteers that keep many of the aircraft in airworthy condition. They also have an air show each May at the Slaton Municipal Airport. Visit their web site at thetexasairmuseum.org.
